Introduction: Cancer is the name given to a set of related diseases. In all types of
cancer, some of the body's cells begin to divide without stopping and spread in the
surrounding tissues.
Objective: To characterize the types of neoplasias most frequently treated at
Hospital Universitaria. Methodology: Retrospective Analytical Study, the universe under study was constituted by 13,519 attentions, analyzing only the first 10 most frequent types of neoplasia, finding a population of 4,398 more frequent attentions.
Results: Lymphoid Leukemia was found to have the first place with 1,249 cases,
surpassing the 500 cases of Uterus and Stomach Cancer, and below this number;
Myeloid Leukemia, Brain, Liver, Ocular, Thyroid and Prostate Cancer. Among
the most affected ages are the ranges of 40-54 years and> 55 years, adding the
number 3,403 cases reported, the gender most affected is the male, with more
than 50% of the cases, the origin is of the character of the capital (Urban), with
3,571 attentions of Francisco Morazán, the mortality comes in 566 cases, with
lymphoid leukemia that covers more deaths.
Conclusions: Cancer is a problem that is aggravated over the years, without clear
strategies for the reduction of high rates.
